Alan Ramírez and Innovial: When Leadership Goes Beyond the Field

Alan Ramírez, Dominican soccer player and New Vision Sports athlete, co-developed Innovial — an AI-powered smart traffic light system using solar energy to reduce road accidents in the Dominican Republic.

At New Vision Sports we believe that great student-athletes stand out not only for what they do on the field, but also for the impact they create in their communities. A clear example of this is Alan Ramírez, a Dominican soccer player and member of the New Vision family, who recently took part in developing an innovative project aimed at improving road safety in the Dominican Republic.

Innovial: A Proposal to Save Lives

Alan, together with a group of students, developed Innovial — a project designed to tackle one of the most pressing challenges the Dominican Republic faces today: traffic accidents.

The proposal centers on the implementation of smart traffic lights capable of managing traffic automatically using artificial intelligence, sensors, and cameras. The system analyzes the number of vehicles on each road and determines which lane should receive a green light, optimizing traffic flow in a way similar to a traffic officer, but fully automated.

Innovial also incorporates technology to detect ambulances and other emergency vehicles, allowing them to move through intersections more quickly in critical situations.

Technology in Service of the Community

One of the most innovative aspects of the project is that it would run on solar energy, reducing dependence on the traditional power grid and promoting a more sustainable solution for cities.

The combination of artificial intelligence, automation, and renewable energy makes Innovial a modern proposal designed to address real challenges that affect thousands of people every day.

A Project With Purpose

The initiative was officially presented on May 15th and emerges in a particularly relevant context for the country. According to several international reports, the Dominican Republic ranks among the countries with the highest road traffic mortality rates — a reality that directly impacts thousands of families every year.

For this reason, Alan and his team hope that the project will continue to develop and eventually receive support from government institutions to help improve mobility and road safety across the country.

The Profile American Universities Are Looking For

When a Dominican athlete pursues a sports scholarship in the USA, universities do not evaluate field performance alone. Coaches and admissions directors assess the complete student-athlete profile: grades, extracurricular involvement, leadership both on and off the team, and the kind of person who will represent their campus.

Projects like Innovial are precisely the kind of initiative that sets a candidate apart during the college recruiting process. They demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to collaborate, social awareness, and the capacity to turn a real problem into a concrete solution — qualities every university program values deeply.

For a soccer player from the Dominican Republic aiming to compete in the NCAA or NAIA, building this kind of track record off the field can be just as decisive as a highlight reel or a strong GPA.

Leadership as a Competitive Advantage in Recruiting

The American university system was built on a clear premise: sports are an extension of education, not the other way around. That is why the NCAA and NAIA require minimum academic standards, and why coaches at top programs prioritize athletes who demonstrate maturity, purpose, and commitment beyond athletic performance.

Alan understands this. His work on Innovial is not just another school project — it is evidence that he can lead in contexts that go far beyond a soccer field. And that evidence, presented effectively during the recruiting process, carries real weight when it comes to earning a college soccer scholarship in the United States.

At New Vision Sports we work with athletes like Alan to ensure that their full story — athletic and personal — reaches the right coaches in the right way.

More Than an Athlete

For New Vision Sports, stories like Alan's represent exactly the kind of Dominican student-athlete we aim to develop. Sports teach discipline, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. When those skills transfer to the academic and social sphere, the results can generate a positive impact far beyond a soccer field.

Alan continues building his path as a high-performance athlete while proving that young people can also become agents of change in their communities.

We are proud to walk alongside him in this process and to see how our athletes use their talents to make a positive impact both on and off the field.

If you are an athlete from the Dominican Republic and want to know how to build a profile that opens doors at American universities, New Vision Sports can help you take the next step.
